Plumbing - Apprenticeship

Plumbing & Heating

You will be involved in the installation or service and maintenance of plumbing systems for example, baths and showers, pipework, guttering, radiators and heating systems.

What will I learn?

Mandatory units include:

  • Safe working practices in building services engineering
  • Domestic Cold water
  • Domestic hot water system installation
  • Domestic above ground drainage system installation and maintenance
  • Domestic central heating
  • Electrical for plumbers

During your studies you will also cover a range of knowledge and skills across areas including:

  • Domestic hot and cold water systems
  • Central heating systems
  • Sanitation systems
  • Environmental technologies

You are also required to study any additional qualifications that your employment needs.

How will I be taught?

The practical content of the course will be taught in a purpose built workshop and the knowledge units will be delivered in classrooms. You will also be expected to carry out your own research for assignment work and complete an NVQ work based evidence portfolio.

What can I do next?

On successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Gas Utilisation & Maintenance. Our apprenticeships are recognised as fulfilling the competence requirements of the compulsory ACS card schemes and will enable you to register on a relevant industry recognised Gas safe Scheme which is evidence that an operative is deemed competent to carry out a particular job role effectively and safely.

Is there anything else I need to know?

During the practical aspect of the programme you will be required to bring your own personal protective equipment in the form of safety boots, overalls and a high visibility vest as you will be working within a workshop environment for most of the time. Although all other tools and equipment are provided, you will need to purchase stationery for use in the classroom such as folders, pens, rulers, etc,.
